The brain of a child in her early years has a remarkable capacity to learn languages. Foreign languages, however, become an integral part of the curriculum in Millard later in a students career, in middle and high school. I think the district should move toward expanding its foreign language learning in the K-5 IB program to the rest of the programs in the district (traditional, core, and montessori). I am not sure how often students in the K-5 spanish program have spanish class, but I would suggest that students would need to be exposed to the foreign language at least three times per week for the instruction to be truly effective.
