As a Millard elementary, middle school and high school student I have had my real share of experience here. I would consider myself a "high ability learner" who needs to be challenged often or slacks due to no interest whatsoever. Millard says they offer a "World Class Education" but from what I have experienced this is a "United States Mediocre Education." I have not been challenged in my middle school years, the only relevant "challenge" is being put into different math levels and I believe they need to sort by ability level for EVERY core class. It will meet the needs of all students and every child will be challenged or helped to their ability. Kids who learn faster and want to learn further in depth don't need to be "held back" from the kids who might need a little more help than most. As a student who visits that problem frequently I find it quite frustrating after the countless "I don't get this!" and "This is too hard!" remarks. If you want our students to truly have remarkable and success story educations that have been all started right in our heartland we need to step it up. Also another issue is AP classes. Currently at Millard High Schools we as students aren't allowed to take AP classes until junior year and some not even until senior year. I would like to see classes available to younger grades because to be able to compete with other school's educations who don't have limits at their AP grade level requirements we need to be at the same playing field. I'd really like to see Millard carry out with making sure we as students can get the BEST possible education we can get, so students who want to do great can be great with the right education.
