Let's give year-round schooling a thought. Studies show that students who attend year-round schools retain information between grade levels better than their peers who attend the traditional schools. Therefor, there is less catch up and review at the beginning of the school year. In addition to higher retention, teachers can use the small breaks throughout the year as an opportunity to reteach missing skills to select students. What a great way to stop the slippery slide backwards. Children were once needed to help in the fields and thus the reason for long summer breaks. I say throw that archaic practice out, and let's do what's best for students. To start, Millard can launch a pilot school at the elementary level.
