Socialization Equals Engagement

I think the best way to get parents involved is by building their social networks within the schools. If parents have a stronger relationship with other parents of children from the same class, they will become more involved in the life of their children and the educational processes taking place. At the grade school level, I know the children take field trips all the time, so why not have a "field trip" for parents by class so all the parents can really get to know each other. Our children spend a lot of time together and most parents are so busy they don't understand a lot of what their children are doing or learning in school, or even who our children spend their time with. The events at school are nice and so is the Buzz Book, but I think we need some parents events to give parents a chance to network with each other. The more we network and socialize, the more we will become engaged in our schools.l
