Part of of raising kids to be responsible adults is to incrementally loosen boundaries while adults still have oversight. The hope is that this will teach kids how to be responsible with freedom gradually so that they don't go out of control when they enter college.

I believe it would be beneficial for high school students to have open access to technology while at school as it would help teach responsibility with technology in a controlled setting. They would learn that downloading inappropriate materials has consequences instead of first finding this out when they get fired from a job. They would learn that texting during class isn't respectful, instead of learning this while being disciplined by a boss.

I know that many details need to be worked out for this to happen, but I believe it is at least worthy of discussion as technology is so prevalent in our world today.
