Last year was my first experience with Millard and I thought how can I join the PTO when I don't know anyone. Well, the truth is, it is very easy to join. All you have to do is volunteer to help out with the next event and the next thing you know, you are part of this huge family which together are doing what they can to help support the school that your child attends. Everyone is so welcoming and soon you will find yourself not just volunteering, but developing close relationships with other parents. There are so many benefits to becoming a part of the PTO, I am surprised more parents aren't involved. I realize it takes time, but the rewards are well worth the effort! I am honored to have this opportunity and honestly, I can't wait for the next PTO project! If you haven't joined your schools PTO/PTA, you should seriously consider it. Why? Here are some of the benefits:

1. You teach your child about community service and getting involved in something meaningful and big
2. You show your child how much interest you have in their education by helping with their school
3. You build strong connections with other parents that can last a life time
4. You child will start seeing you as a stronger role model, thus building stronger connections with them

These are just the benefits that I see and I am not a PTO recruiter or even on the board, I am just a new member! So think about it and the next time your PTO/PTA is asking for volunteers, step up to the plate! You will be glad you did, I am!
