It doesn't work for me.

I think children should have quick access to their school during the school day. I have watched children who arrive early for an activity or arrive late for school, sitting and waiting to be "allowed" inside. I think this creates additional, more common, safety hazards. I think It is far more likely that a child is going to be locked out on a freezing cold day or get kidnapped while waiting to be allowed inside, than that a shooter is going to come. Additional thoughts: 1)If a shooter were outside, locked doors could lead to additional deaths. 2)Most school violence comes from students already in the building. 3)What if emergency personnel are hindered during an emergency because of locked doors? If someone gets it into their head to harm another, they'll find a way. Let's teach our children to be kind, to be aware of each other, and to care for each other. Teach them what to do in an emergency. I feel security doors are a "placebo" and can be a safety hazard in their own right.
