It is important for deaf and hard-of-hearing children to be around their peers, so the suburbs in Omaha have created the Suburban program for education deaf and hoh children. The deaf educator is amazing, but the location of the program is in a questionable area. There has been swat teams raiding houses two mornings this school year when I have been coming and going from the school. Why was this school chosen? I know there are other Millard schools that have room. Or, is there not another suburb with higher standardized scores, etc. that has room? Why put the deaf/hoh kids in a school district with lower testing scores? Surely this is not a location Millard would want its very reputable name on?!
