"NO GRINDING" Policy I have proposed a three pronged approach to the implementation of a zero tolerance policy to prohibit the form of dancing called “grinding” and other inappropriate types of dancing that include full body contact accompanied by body language and moves that are suggestive of sexual behavior. 1. The first prong of implementation should focus on teaching students in a dynamic way why this type of behavior objectifies a young person and their dance partner and will not be tolerated at school dances. This discussion of sexually explicit dancing should be integrated into our sexual education and health studies curriculum in the middle school and high school levels. To insure that the teaching of this principle is thorough, in addition to health class this discussion of sexually explicit dancing should also briefly take place once a semester in the Middle School homerooms and High School advisement time. 2. The second prong of implementation should be a public statement by the school district of its position regarding this type inappropriate dance conduct. A strong message should be sent to parents in the newsletter as well as the community via a press release to local media that that this type of dancing and conduct will not be tolerated at any Millard School function. 3. The third prong of implementation is enforcement and follow through. Enforcement should be a warning to the offending students at the school dance by teachers or chaperons responsible for the supervision of students at the dance. If this final warning is ignored by the offending students, the students will be escorted off the dance floor by an administrator who will contact their parents and release them to their parents for removal from the dance.
