In the wake of the Sandy Hook Tragedy, the "playing field" has changed. We must adjust. We need to send a message to any copycats that it would be useless to attack a school due to the massive security changes that have taken place. We need to make security changes to our schools in reaction to the Sandy Hook Tragedy, just as the FAA made security changes after 911. (New pilot doors on all airlines, air marshals and dramatically tightening security at all airports.) Currently schools are an easy target - defenseless - with the soft security in place. School shootings are becoming the norm, because no one makes any significant changes that would actually make a difference. A locked glass entry could never stop an intruder with the same intent as that of Sandy Hook. The reality is - these are the types of threats we need to be proactively protecting our children against. Everyone buries their heads in the sand and hope it doesn't happen again. Officials talk about the chances of anything happening to "our" school being very, very slim.......until the next victim is one of ours. I realize there are current security policies in place - but they do not include how to defend against what just happened in Newtown. If it means turning our schools into "mini prisons," so every day we don't have to wonder if that will be the last - then that is what must be done. Doing anything less is negligent on the schools part.
