We need to engage the "gamers" into relationships with others

I'm very concerned about the "gamers" out there and the fact that they tend to be loners and are disengaged from their peers. My son has ADD and struggles with this as well. And after seeing these elements again in the school shooter in CT last week, I want to find some way to pull these kids back into relationship with other people (not in an online environment). While I encourage my son to call a classmate to invite them over or out to a movie, it doesn't happen. I can't get him interested in sports. He's barely interested in music and takes private lessons (drums). Would it be possible to structure an after-school gathering where these kids could get to know one another and work together on some "other focused" projects like community service projects involving special needs kids, visiting kids in the hospital, a community art project, etc.?
