I know in High School students can take some financial classes, but I think they need to require them in order for students to graduate. Most high school grads do not understand finances and how to stay out of debt and manage their money. It would be great if these things were required as part of graduation so we would know our children understand these things before going out into the world. Teach them all about credit cards and credit card companies so they are more aware of the impact they have on finances. Teach them about bouncing checks and the penalties for it. Teach them how to budget their money and align their priorities. The more they know coming out of high school, the better off they will be when they venture off on their own. Sure, parents can teach them, but if its a requirement for graduation, they will be more willing to learn it. Our country and economy will be stronger if we can keep our young from going into debt. Besides, they will have enough debt from student loans!
