I would like to see some sort of gardening in school. There is so much wasted land. Studies show that children who have the experience of growing their own food eat more fruits and vegetables and consume a wider variety of foods. They are healthier. Every school could have an orchard, grow vegetables (greenhouses?), have a hands-on program where the children get to take home something they grew.
These programs are being used throughout the United States. Planning gardens teaches math and spacial ability, is good exercise, uses reasoning skills and requires reading and cooperation during planning.
